Overview of God's Plan of Salvation
All have sinned and our hope lies in Jesus Christ.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 1 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 2 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. 3
Jesus Christ loves you.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 4 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 5
You must accept God's gift of eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 6 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 7 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 8
The above summarizes God's gift of salvation. Christ has done it all; you can do nothing to save yourself - and you need to be saved from sin and death. However, you must accept the gift.
For example, if someone puts a dollar bill on a your table and says "It's yours", have you really received anything yet? No! Not until you pick-up the dollar bill have you accepted or received the gift. If you walk away without picking it up, you have nothing. Likewise, Jesus has paid for your sins by shedding his blood on the cross and through his resurrection offers you eternal life. Have you received eternal life yet? No! Not until you "confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus" have you accepted the gift. If you walk away, you have nothing.
